Players can only place one card into their inkwell once per turn, so any ability that allows more ink to be accumulated, especially early in the game, is very useful

First was this: These cards use the +1/+1 counter as a means to permanently grow something else (and to be fair only Weaponsmith did this out right, Transmogrant kind of hinted at it without directly naming the +1/+1 counterthis would later be fixed in Oracle)

Of course, you can always use one look-at-hand ability to make a second one, one that asks you to name a card or characteristic first, go without a hitch
